Today we woke up early to go on a hike with the whole group. We decided to hike up to the old Shyira hospital that has now been turned into a health center. The hike was STEEP. We knew that we were going up a hill but we did not know that it was going to take an hour of us going straight up. After getting to the health center we toured it with the director. It was interesting to see how the old buildings were no longer in use. I can’t imagine carrying sick patients all the way up that path to get to the hospital. On our way down from the hike we ran into some children and I passed out a few stickers. They hiked down with us and I taught them words in English, I felt like I was back at my job in the kindergarten. After our hike we gave our final presentations which was fun! It was nice to finish those presentations. The best part of the day was we went to play soccer with the local children! I loved every second of it.
This day helped me realize that we are the gift. We can not always provide physical means, but we can provide our talents and opportunities. We should look at ourselves and everything that we have and be grateful. The hike up to the old health center helped me realize that we are so blessed. We did not have to carry people on stretchers up that steep hill in order to get the medical assistance that we need. Playing soccer with the kids made me realize that we are the gift. Looking at these kids with nothing play with us and treat us as friends allowed me to be open to those around me. We should remember that we are blessed and have talents that we have been given to help those around us. It is important that we utilize our education in order to make sure that we can be a gift to others. Attached below are pictures of us playing with the kids, this moment will be something that I will never forget because I want to remember that I am a gift that needs to work towards helping others.
